{"id":914,"date":"2018-07-17T15:12:35","date_gmt":"2018-07-17T14:12:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bscmulticulturalservices.org.uk\/?p=914"},"modified":"2018-07-17T15:27:03","modified_gmt":"2018-07-17T14:27:03","slug":"suffolks-diversity-to-be-celebrated-at-the-one-big-multicultural-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bscmulticulturalservices.org.uk\/?p=914","title":{"rendered":"Suffolk\u2019s diversity to be celebrated at the One Big Multicultural Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bscmulticulturalservices.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/1bmflaunch.jpg\" alt=\"One Big Multicultural Festival Launch 2018\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eadt.co.uk\/news\/first-details-of-one-big-multicultural-festival-in-ipswich-are-revealed-1-5602174\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">East Anglian Daily Times article<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The first details of this year\u2019s One Big Multicultural Festival in Suffolk have been revealed.<\/p>\n<p>The free event, which celebrates the county\u2019s diversity and promotes bringing communities together, will take place on September 2 in Alexandra Park, Ipswich.<\/p>\n<p>In previous years, it has attracted crowds of up to 8,000 \u2013 and this year it is expected to be the best yet.<\/p>\n<p>Organised by the Bangladeshi Support Centre and backed by the Arts Council, the event is now in its eighth year.<\/p>\n<p>Boshor Ali, chairman of the Bangladeshi Support Centre, said: \u201cIt\u2019s getting bigger and better and stronger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important to include everybody and celebrate the different cultures we have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cWe are trying to get different things on board this year. We have two or three international performers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also praised the passion and dedication of the organisations involved.<\/p>\n<p>Food and drink from international cuisines plus a range of activities for all the family will be on offer throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>BBC Radio Suffolk presenter Wayne Bavin will be hosting this year\u2019s event.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be a fantastic selection of live music from around the world \u2013 this year, that will include top musicians from West Africa \u2013 as well as dance, and sports on offer.<\/p>\n<p>Ipswich Borough Council has supported the event since its inception. Council leader David Ellesmere spoke at the launch, held in Alexandra Park this week, about the importance of the event and reflected on its huge success.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Shayra Begum, from the Bangladeshi Support Centre, said: \u201cWe need something that brings people together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are all just people, and we need to get that message out to young people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Organisers say everyone is invited to the festival \u2013 with guest numbers expected to top 8,000. The action starts at noon and finishes at around 6pm.<\/p>\n<p>While the event is in Ipswich, organisers say it is very much a festival for the whole of Suffolk.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be free
